Understanding Our Inherent Creative Ability

Every human is a creator. Creativity is an essential part of being human, as essential as walking, talking and thinking. Creativity is the natural law of life and is inherent in all of us. We are all born as spontaneous creative thinkers. We experience creativity every time a new idea explodes into our minds and we can call for creativity when we want it.

Dictionary says that “create” means to bring into existence something that is new, something that did not exist before. We imagine creators as people struggling against odds, trying to craft new inventions, music or art that is novel, fresh, unique. We think that prior training and skills are crucial in the creative process. Someone who doesn’t know arithmetic will never be a mathematician. A tone-deaf person can never compose music.

When we speak about creativity, creative ability, creative power or accessing creative power, we think of creativity and creative power as having creative ideas which can solve the problems we face. We see creativity as something we do or someplace we go to get a creative idea. We see acting externally in the world to manifest the idea we have as creativity. We do not see what needs to occur inside us to create the space for the creative idea to arise. We do not see how learning about how the physical world works are necessary to access the creative power to act to manifest the desired creation. We fail to bridge the point of the inner and the outer to understand our inner creative power and the outer creative power.

Releasing our unlimited creativity is applicable to any or all aspects of life: Spiritual, mental, emotional, physical, private, professional, social, individually and/or collectively within a group or organization. It spans the spectrum from simply finding creative solutions or innovative ideas to respond to any set of conditions we face to recreating our life or creating an alternative way to live our life. It can be used to create health, inner satisfaction, and a variety of other objectives.

One theory of human origins postulates that millions of years ago, life began on earth from a mathematically impossible chemical reaction caused by a lightning strike to a slimy pond of chemicals—that over a period of time, through incredible non-intelligent processes, first formed into a microscopic acid, then to an amoeba, then to a slug, eventually to an ape, and finally to a man who can sit down, be still and think back and ask: How did I come to be here? At what point did chemicals and lightning and the passage of time supposedly create the inimitable human mind?

No matter how much we dissect, investigate and postulate, the knowledge of origins has to be revealed by an Originator. The real truth of origins and why man is on Earth is known, is extremely well documented, and is so much more inspiring, rational and satisfying than the wild imaginations of evolutionary theory. Education, religion, and science can get a lot further down the path to understanding of human origins and purpose only if those who study origins simply took a fresh look at the abilities of their own minds.

Where does the wisdom come from that make creativity possible? Legendary physicists Werner Heisenberg and Niels Bohr thought deeply about creativity in science. In any great scientific discovery, he said, “We find the often disturbing and happy experience: ‘It is not I; I have not done this.’ Still, in a certain way it is I — yet not the ego … but … a more comprehensive self.” What is this “more comprehensive self”? I suggest that it is a domain of consciousness that is infinite in space and time, in which all information resides. Throughout history, it has been called many names: The Source, the Absolute, God, Goddess, Allah, Universe. It’s an ancient idea, this universal, unitary consciousness. The premise surfaced during the nineteenth century in the philosophy of transcendentalism.

Ralph Waldo Emerson, wrote: There is one mind common to all individual men … What Plato has thought, he may think; what a saint has felt, he may feel; what at any time has befallen any man, he can understand. Who has access to this universal mind is a party to all that is or can be done, for this is the only and sovereign agent. Emerson called this single, universal mind the Over-soul.

Scientists agree on the principle of the unification of minds or consciousness. The multiplicity is only apparent, in truth, there is only one mind. Deep down, the consciousness of human species is one and if we don’t see this it’s because we are blinding ourselves to it. The possibility is that the minds of exceptionally creative people would be in spontaneous, direct, though not necessarily conscious, interaction with other minds within the creative process itself. In this perspective, the One Mind can function as the Source of all the ingredients anyone could ever need to formulate a new idea, paint or sculpt a work of art. Tapping into the Source is the goal of most creative individuals.

The door to creativity is often opened during meditation, reverie or dreams, in which time is perceived as an eternal present in which the divisions of past, present, and future meld into an all-encompassing now. In this state, it is not just the separations in time that disappear, but also separations between people and things. This experience is common. It often erupts spontaneously, as when we are transfixed by a plangent musical note or a wolf’s midnight howl. During these moments, if fortune smiles, we can become an individual who knows, for a while, “everything there was to know.”

We are destined to take responsibility for finishing the creation of the universe now suffering from decay. It is our awesome destiny to be born into the God Family and bring life to myriads of lifeless planets scattered into the deep blackness of space. Humans were created to create! We will use that creativity forever.
