People Literally Can Feel Pain of Others

Experience of ‘auras’ around people may be result of a neuropsychological condition called synesthesia. Synesthesia is a fascinating condition which causes a cross-wiring of the senses. People with it find they can taste numbers or associate particular colors with certain people. It is a condition in which one type of stimulation evokes the sensation of another, as when the hearing of a sound produces the visualization of a color. A sensation felt in one part of the body as a result of stimulus applied to another, as in referred pain. It is the description of one kind of sense impression by using words that normally describe another.

Rather than being weird, spooky or mystical, it is now a recognized neuropsychological phenomenon which is thought to affect about 4% of the population. Synesthesia may help to explain the claim that people have auras; a subtle field of energy around them, which can be read. It may be that seeing this ‘energy field’ is a type of synesthesia.

One example of this cross-over between New Age beliefs and recognized neuropsychological phenomena is the case of Esteban, a faith healer from southern Spain. Researchers from the University of Granada have examined him and found that he has mirror-touch synesthesia. Mirror-touch synesthesia is a phenomenon in which the mere observation of another person being touched causes the observers to experience a touch on their own body. The condition is quite rare, with an estimated prevalence of 1.6% in the general population.

Two main features set this condition apart from other synesthesia. First, the primary unique feature of mirror-touch synesthesia is that the relationship between the inducer (the sight of the touch), and the concurrent sensation (the synesthetic, felt touch) involves a similar sensory experience between the person who is touched and the observer. Yet, this shared representation for the viewed and felt touch is not unique to synesthesia. Even in non-synesthetic individuals, witnessing someone else undergoing a given tactile sensation activates brain areas normally involved when one experiences the same sensation, the so-called ‘tactile mirror system.’ This mapping, in turn, enables an automatic and unconscious simulation of others’ somatic states, supporting our ability to understand others’ sensations.

The second fascinating aspect of mirror-touch synesthesia is its association with empathy. Mirror-touch synesthetes, both developmental and acquired following sensory loss, show higher levels of affective empathy than non-synesthetes. This relationship further links synesthesia with general mechanisms of sensory simulation, rather than with processes unique to synesthesia.

For these features, mirror-touch synesthesia may be considered as an extreme version of a normal process involving the simulation of others’ corporeal sensation. These sensations are classified as synesthesia when conscious experiences occur, namely, when the sight of a touch elicits conscious tactile experiences on the observer’ own body. But what causes synesthetic sensations to emerge? Evidence from neuroimaging experiments suggests that the experience of mirror-touch synesthesia may be related to heightened excitability within the tactile mirror system. In a recently published paper in Current Biology, an attempt is made at verifying whether an increased excitability of the somatosensory cortex could actually cause the emergence of mirror-touch synesthesia even in non-synesthetes.

To this aim, transcranial direct current stimulation is used; which is a non-invasive technique of brain stimulation that can increase cortical excitability, in combination with a task developed for the study of mirror-touch synesthesia. It is found that, by allowing the somatosensory cortex to reach a certain activation threshold non-synesthetic individuals became slower at localizing a site touched on their hand, for example, a felt touch on the left hand, when they simultaneously viewed a touch to the opposite hand, for example, a viewed touch on the right hand. This is a behavioral pattern typical of mirror-touch synesthesia. This interference effect implies that during somatosensory cortical stimulation non-synesthetes are confused by the viewed touch, which becomes difficult to be distinguished from the real touch. This phenomenal experience occurs only when viewing a touch to a human body part, being absent if objects are touched, as also shown in synesthetes. Noteworthy, individual emphatic abilities predict the emergence of mirror-touch responses during the stimulation of the somatosensory cortex: when you look at a person who is being touched, your ability to “put yourself in his/her shoes” is associated with synesthesia-like responses induced by somatosensory cortical stimulation.

These synesthetic phenomena, along with high levels of empathy, and a slightly delusional personality, mean one has special emotional and pain reading skills. In Estaban’s case, there is some relationship between his synesthesia and his perceived special abilities. To further examine the claim, researchers looked specifically at four synesthetes who don’t claim any special ‘New Age’ abilities. They then compared this with known faith healers and aura readers who do claim special abilities. A large enough overlap between the two might suggest a causal role for synesthesia.

The researchers, though, found too many differences between the experience of synesthetes and those claiming to read auras. This does not mean that the aura readers are really seeing auras, just that their ‘powers’ can be explained by alternative means. Seeing auras may instead be a result of the normal functioning of the visual system: The complementary color effect, which results from a temporary ‘‘exhaustion’’ of the color-sensitive cells in the retina, could account for the presence of auric colors seen by a sensitive viewer when staring at a person. Staring at a darker object against a bright background may induce the perception of a bright ‘‘halo’’ around the object,” or it could be that ‘aura readers’ simply see what they want or expect to see, and perhaps invoking synesthesia is too complex an explanation for a much simpler cause.

In summary, mirror-touch synesthesia reflects general vision-touch matching mechanisms, which may underpin our ability to simulate others’ sensations. Importantly, it is also based on an increased activity of cortical areas concerned with bodily sensations. Under normal conditions, the somatosensory system is physiologically active below the threshold of perceptual awareness when we observe other’s tactile experiences. This may be due to inhibitory processes, which prevent one from experiencing the observed sensation. The absence, or reduction, of this physiological inhibitory control in the somatosensory system may, consequently, lead to the experience of mirror-sensory synesthesia. Moreover, differences in empathy reveal themselves in the extent to which individuals respond, physiologically, to seeing others being touched.

Now Is The Time!

We all have a unique destiny, vision and purpose. Purpose – a reason for an action, deliberate plan, a proposition, an intention, a design we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose. Destiny – Intended for some special purpose, where we are heading for, journey. Be not thou therefore ashamed of the testimony of our Lord, nor of me his prisoner: but be thou partaker of the afflictions of the gospel according to the power of God; Who hath saved us, and called us with an holy calling, not according to our works, but according to his own purpose and grace, which was given us in Lord before the world began. Vision – to foresee and perceive what lies ahead, divine, insight, prophetic insight, how you go about in accomplishing the purpose. Where there is no vision, the people perish, but he that kept the law, happy is he. We are here because our presence on the planet is essential at this extraordinary time in history. Opening to a vision creates a synergy that is powerful and dynamic. There is a vibrant mission that is calling us all to higher ground and to more deeply loving and profound experiences. Each one of us has a unique capacity to be of service to the community and world at large. Our only job is to uncover our core power, gifts and talents and activate a willingness to serve in expansive ways.

There are no obstacles to our greatness. There has never been an event that defines our future. We have never experienced anything that can stop us from soaring into a greater yet to be. The only limitations are in our thinking. Exciting experiences awaits us, the moment we look at life through the lens of infinite possibilities. An open-hearted communication builds bridges of understanding and expansion. We are all called to commune and to communicate with the intent of breaking down walls of fear and doubt. The heart is intelligent and when we learn to listen and share from the heart space, peace is the outcome for all.

The power of creativity, compassion, and the resilient brain is healing and transformational. Empathy connects to the inner life of another person. It has been shown to improve every physical system in the body like immune, cardiovascular, and organ systems. The more interest a doctor expresses in the inner life of a patient, that is to say, how that patient experiences their illness rather than symptomology, the more likely a positive outcome. According to Dr. Siegel, the key to optimal healing is the connecting inner life to inner life. This means that doctors, teachers, therapists, parents, clergy must be in touch with their own inner lives. He called it practicing medicine, parenting, marrying, etc. from the inside out.

Storytelling is the most ancient and powerful way of reciprocal sharing inner life with another. Any of the non-verbal expressive media serve the same purpose. But we are narrative creatures, seeking meaning in our experience. This is the realm of story. Story making, in its very nature, creates wholeness and integration. It holds conflict in the form of characters and situations in a larger container, and allows these conflicts to play out and resolve themselves naturally as a new story emerges. As storyteller of our lives, we are also the integrating consciousness.

The healing community that forms in story groups, or any other healing relationship based on a right-brain modality; not therapy necessarily, unless it has these qualities of creativity and inner life to inner life, be it authentic movement, expressive dance, free form visual arts, music making and listening, yoga, reiki, mindfulness meditation, equine therapy, shamanic chant, etc. becomes the container that holds a person and gives their brain an integrative environment, time, and space to heal itself and the integrative fibers to regrow. Storytelling and witness gives each person a sense of safety, belonging, and dignity, so necessary to thriving.

Working with intuition, which is strengthened by the receptivity involved in creative process, makes us even more aware and responsive to toxicity in other people and situations. In these story groups, which are built on the sensory elements of time, environment, character, situation, and storyteller, we become very attentive to where we are, what we are doing, and the often unconscious motivations and inner lives of others. Story experiencing life as an unfolding story with us as the witness and storyteller is spiritual practice.

Expressive modalities like writing, dance and other expressive movement, visual art, music create a state of healthy alertness, relaxation, and release. It feels like joy. It is the state of flow; which is synonymous with the dynamic Self versus ego delineated by ancient wisdom traditions and modern psychologists, including Jung and his followers. In the mythic journey, the heart and soul of story approach the highest evolved archetype is the jester, who holds the whole truth of existence; both its light and shadow within a non-harming joke and a good laugh.

There is a divine and infinite substance that is always creating. The essence of this energy is love and compassion. It is the very stuff of which we are all made. Therefore, we can, in any moment, access this energy and be transformative agents for this world. Powerful choices create powerful lives. Every moment is an opportunity to choose life, love, peace, harmony and joy. Every moment is a call to awaken to our inherent nature. Every moment offers the chance to step through a portal of magnificent living. Now is the time! Stand up! Find your voice! Step up and live out loud!

I Want To Love Me

We have all hurt others and used our power in a way that goes against the universal laws of loving creation. We are learning through karma, pain and difficulty and are in a lower state of consciousness at this time. We simply do not know any better. We do not know what we are doing. We are stuck in duality with a very low state of consciousness simply reacting from its own source of inner pain and spreading it to everyone we come into contact with.

When we begin to awake, we will see our behavioral patterns. This is spiritual eye opening. We were once blind, but now we see. It is a positive sign of our soul’s ascension. We see our behavioral patterns and are willing to accept responsibility for our life and the way we treat others. We have the courage to face our self and the life we have created. As we face God or Goddess, we face the self.

During this soul’s ascension, it is common to be filled with guilt. Guilt does have value, in that it teaches us how not to be. Guilt does not feel good, so it is imperative for us to feel our guilt, but at the same time work on forgiveness of the self. One should not hold onto guilt, it will hold back soul’s ascension. We should respect our self and our soul’s evolution.

Negative lessons are just as valid as positive ones. Every soul interaction has a lesson. In fact, it is oftentimes our pain that is the catalyst for transformation. Most people who choose to ascend go through so much pain in their lives they finally decide to give up. However, in order to move beyond our karmic lessons, we need to clean up our soul, and heal the negative energies within us that want to create painful circumstances for ourselves and others.

When negative energy is created within our being, it doesn’t just go away. We will have to raise the negative energy to a higher vibration; this is soul alchemy, where we turn our darkness into the light of the Christ or buddhic consciousness. As we evolve, all negativity begins to rise to the surface. This is a very uncomfortable time period, where the old negative ego begins to be transformed by the higher self. The ego feels like it is dying. The Ego feels lost, confused, uncertain, and doubtful and is full of pain from its negative creations. During this period, we must commit to our transformation through positive thinking, spiritual practice of meditation, prayer, self forgiveness and self love allowing self to surrender to our higher soul. Self love and forgiveness are imperative to our transformation, and it entails immense effort. Meditation helps to tap into the loving vibrations within our self, and also looking our self in the mirror and telling our self how much we love our self. This is very difficult in the beginning. We will shy away and will not want to look in our eyes, but as we persist, we will yield.

Eventually, we start to love our self as it truly is. We need to disband all the static interference in our energy field that blocks us from fully tapping into truth. Energy working through Universal Life Force Energy helps us clear these blocks. Energy healers are invaluable, and they are located all over the world. Find one you resonate with. Yoga, running, fast walking or any kind of exercise also helps us move energy in the energy field so we can move the painful blocks that we are stuck in.

Change Beliefs and You Will Change Results

Sometimes, we are enthusiastic and on fire for our future. Unfortunately, we don’t keep the mental doors locked and something negative slips in, and we will stop pursuing our dream. All failure begins this way. People may have high hopes, but when their perceived circumstances suggest a lesser outcome is more likely; perhaps via an unexpected obstacle, this perceived discrepancy becomes the initial seed of failure. Being unaware of how this process destroys the dreams of countless people, they fall victim to its seduction. Take a look at what happens and how this process works.

We all have two parts in our thinking: One is our dream or goal, and the second is the belief that it might not ever happen. This is where most people start out. Now, something begins to spark or inspire a person to take action on their dream. Nevertheless, not having a full understanding of the Laws of Success, they are actually moving in the direction of their dream with a great deal of ignorance. Ignorance is not necessarily a bad thing, as long as a person stays open to what one must learn along the way. The problem is many individuals are not open to growth and change.

Now the subconscious manifests an obstacle to keep them from experiencing anything new. This new challenge is perceived as a point of failure. It is at this point in a person’s journey where moving forward becomes too painful or fearful, and a person usually chooses to stay safe. This is also the point where moving forward would allow a person to see the bigger win they are hoping for.

Our beliefs control our perception of everything in our world, which in turn creates our reality. If we want to change our reality, we must use new information to change our beliefs and perception. Until we see things differently, we will continue to makes choices that keep us where we are; eventually, we will give up on our dreams. In other words, our experiences reflect our belief system. If there is anything in our life we don’t want to experience all we need to do to change it is to change the belief that caused it in the first place.

In theory, it is really simple… but in practice, many of us find it difficult because we really don’t understand all beliefs are nothing but illusions. These illusions are so strong we tend to think that illusions are real when actually they are not. The power of belief is astounding. Study its mysteries for yourself and see what changes you truly do have the power to make.

Body, Mind & Spirit

Clarifying your aspiration, unconditional follow-through, never abdicating your authority, practicing absolute sincerity and being a good steward of your life are the five foundations bedrock on which the spiritual liberation rests. They should not be ignored, skimmed over, or taken lightly. In a very real sense, the five foundations are absolutely essential components of the liberation that apply after awakening as much as, if not more than, before it. Don’t be deceived into thinking that the five foundations are insignificant or rudimentary simply because they appear to be attuned more to the human, or relative, aspect of reality. The five foundations are a means of living and manifesting the ultimate nature of reality in daily life. If we do not live and manifest in our lives what we realize in our deepest moments of revelation, then we are living a split life.

Furthermore, clarifying your aspiration, unconditional follow-through, never abdicating your authority, practicing absolute sincerity and being a good steward of your life provides the context within which the liberation unfolds. Misinterpretation of a spiritual teaching by the ego is always a significant danger, since the ego’s tendency is to justify whatever points of view it is attached to and invested in.

To add to this danger, any spiritual teaching rooted in the absolute nature of reality is by definition oriented toward Truth, not toward the ethical and moral dimension of relative life. This does not mean that such teachings are immoral, it means that they are trans-moral; that is, rooted in a reality beyond the relative moral and ethical standards of the dualistic perspective.

This does not mean that all morality is rendered irrelevant in the absolute view; this is a common misunderstanding. It means that morality is no longer rooted in the cultural and religious values designed to rein in and control egoistic impulses. Instead, selfless love and compassion naturally flow out of the unified view of reality as spontaneous expressions of that unity. When nothing is seen to be separate or other than you, the actions that flow through you reflect that unified perspective.

It can get complicated because it is possible to have some experience of the ultimate nature of reality while at the same time not being completely free of egoistic delusion. This makes for the possible volatile mixture of reality and illusion simultaneously existing and expressing itself in an unconscious and distorted way. While some of this is to be expected as we are maturing in spirit, there are few things more distorted or dangerous than an ego that thinks it is God.

If these foundational aspects of the spiritual life are ignored, it will almost always derail one’s spiritual unfolding to some degree. A failure to explore and come to clarity about any one of these, as well as to consistently apply them, will result in ongoing inner and outer conflict and division at some level.

The five foundations are a means of gathering all of your inner resources—body, mind, and spirit—and focusing them in a unified way toward your highest aspiration. I cannot overemphasize the importance of having a clear unified focus, sincere heart, and an unwavering desire not to knowingly delude yourself or others.

Spiritual Liberation

Spiritual liberation is sometimes called awakening, enlightenment, realization of itself or simply see what is absolutely true. It is impossible to know what words like liberation or enlightenment means until you make them yourself. That being so. it is pointless to speculate on what enlightenment is. As a guiding principle, in order to gradually achieve this is not quite true, is infinitely more valuable than speculate on what is. People think that it is the occupation of a spiritual teaching to provide answers to the great questions of life, but in fact, the opposite is true. The fundamental task of any good spiritual teaching is not to answer your questions, but put into question your answers. Because it is your conscious and unconscious assumptions and beliefs that distort your perception and you do see a division and separation when there is in fact only unity and integrity.

Spiritual liberation is not hidden, or secret. You may not earn, merit or understanding. At the time of spiritual liberation, reality and completeness are in plain sight. In fact, the only thing it is to see, hear, smell, taste, touch, or feel, is reality or God, if you wish. Absolute completeness surrounds you wherever you go. There is really no reason to bother you on this subject, with the exception of the fact that we humans have long us deceived in such a confined confusing entanglement and disorder the divinity inside and around us that we consider as punishment, much less experience for ourselves.

Spiritual liberation is a call to action; this is something that you. It is a fact that will absolutely void you. If you don’t, if you do not study and apply without fear, it cannot perform any transformation. Spiritual liberation is not a belief system; it’s something to put into practice. To learn about spiritual liberation as a spectator would be to miss the point. Being a spectator, it’s easy and secure. You be active in your own awakening to the truth is neither easy nor safe. The procedure is unpredictable, the absolute commitment, results not guaranteed.

Light of Truth

The man who in his life on earth refuses to acknowledge that there is also life after death, and that sooner or later he will be forced to render account for all that he has done and all that he has left undone, is blind and deaf when he one day has to pass over into the Ethereal World. Only during the days and weeks while he still remains connected with his discarded physical body will he be able partially to observe what goes on around him.

Once we are free from disintegrating physical body this possibility is lost to us! We no longer see or hear anything. That, however, is not punishment, but quite natural, because we do not want to see or hear anything of the Ethereal World. Our own will, which can quickly form ethereal matter corresponding to it, prevents our ethereal body from seeing as well as hearing until gradually a change takes place in our soul. Whether this takes years or decades, perhaps even centuries, is the concern of each individual. We can exercise our free will untrammeled. Help will only come to us when we ourselves long for it. Not before! It will never be forced upon us!

The light which the soul makes the acquaintance with such great joy when it starts to see is always there, but previously the soul was unable to see it. This light is also clearer and stronger than it appears at first sight to the hitherto blind soul. How the soul sees it, whether strong or weak, depends entirely on the condition of the soul itself. The light does not come closer of its own accord, but it is there! The soul can enjoy it at any time, if it humbly and earnestly wishes to do so. However, what I am clearing up here applies only to this particular kind of human soul. It does not necessarily apply to others. In the region of darkness and its planes there is no light. There it is impossible for us who advances inwardly to be able suddenly to see the light, for we must first be led out of the surroundings which hold us.

The condition of the soul depicted here may surely be called miserable, because it is filled with a great fear and is void of all hope, but it did not wish it otherwise. It now receives only what it forced upon itself. It had refused to believe in a conscious life after physical death. But the soul cannot abolish this continuation of life for itself, because it has no jurisdiction over it. It only builds for itself a barren ethereal plane, paralyzing the senses of the ethereal body, so that it can neither see nor hear ethereally until the soul itself finally changes its attitude. These are the souls which can be found by the million on earth today. Apart from the fact that they refuse all knowledge about God and eternity, they can still be called decent. The fate of the evil-minded is naturally much worse, but we shall not speak about them here, only about the so-called respectable people.

When it is said that God will stretch forth His Hand to help, this is done in the Word which He sends out to mankind, showing them how they can redeem themselves from the guilt in which they have become entangled. From the very beginning, He has shown His Mercy in all the great possibilities placed freely at the disposal of human spirits in Creation. This is so overwhelming that the man of today cannot even conceive it because he never concerned himself with it seriously enough! Wherever he did, however, it was only as a pastime or for the purpose of vain self-aggrandizement!
