Hyatt Lane by Phil Varney
Cool tree overhanging the road along Hyatt Lane, in Great Smoky Mountains National Park. It’s hard to see with the lighting here, but there’s some nice fresh snow on the top of Rich Mountain (beneath the tree). Cades Cove is a great place in the park for photography – endless possibilities along the loop road and cut-through roads in the park! I definitely see more shots from Sparks Lane, but for whatever reason I’ve gravitated more to Hyatt Lane. Shots like this definitely teach patience – for a while before this, the sky was just totally blanketed in clouds. I would say at least 50% of a good picture is patience, if not more – just waiting around until the conditions align with the composition!
